The gymnastics world in India is usually surrounded by serious competitions and high stakes trials. The seriousness of each competition is noticeable and tensions are usually high given the important selections at stake.

The IGL started two years ago and for the first time created an atmosphere not experienced before. Teaming top class male and female gymnasts from the country, a range of junior and senior gymnasts of different skill levels created a resurged atmosphere for participants. This allowed for new interactions, new friendships and new team spirit to foster.

It was fascinating to see gymnasts from all over the country with different backgrounds work with one another and their coaches to build strategies and cohesively come together as a unit.

Tweaking rules here and there, to engage audiences and more importantly to allow gymnasts to enjoy their gymnastics and at the same time attempt new difficult moves in a competition scenario gave way to a thrilling experience for all involved.

For athletes, who are usually surrounded by intense training and competition, I believe it is important to have such setups that accommodate for the ‘fun’ aspect of competition at the same time bringing the gymnastics community together and build relationships that make an event such as this possible.

I am grateful to the league in all its efforts to make gymnastics more exciting and popular within the country, at the same time showing the essence of the sport, team spirit and it’s grandeur.
